City of Homestead Completes Annual CRS Recertification & Releases Local Mitigation Strategy Progress Report

The City of Homestead has successfully completed its annual recertification for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS). As part of this process, the City has submitted all necessary documentation and has released the annual progress report on its Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) to the public. The report is available for review on the City’s website at www.homesteadfl.gov/CRS.
The CRS is a voluntary program that incentivizes municipalities to implement floodplain management practices exceeding NFIP requirements. These efforts reduce flood risks, improve community resilience, and result in discounted flood insurance premiums for residents. Currently, Homestead holds a CRS Class 7 rating, providing property owners with a 15% discount on their flood insurance policies.
“This recertification underscores the City’s commitment to proactive floodplain management and community safety,” said City Manager Zerry Ihekwaba. “Through the CRS program, we continue to enhance our flood mitigation efforts while also providing financial relief to residents through insurance discounts.”
The annual LMS progress report outlines the City’s ongoing initiatives to reduce flood risk and enhance disaster preparedness. Residents and businesses are encouraged to review the report and learn more about how Homestead is working to strengthen its resilience against flooding.
