Hemingway Days 2025 in Key West: A Historic Reunion with the Hemingway Family Estate
For decades, Hemingway Days has been a vibrant celebration of one of America’s most legendary writers, Ernest Hemingway. This year, however, the festival reaches a remarkable milestone: for the first time in its 45-year history, the Hemingway family and the board of Hemingway, Ltd. will officially join the festivities in Key West, marking a heartfelt reunion with the community that cherishes the author’s legacy.
From July 21 to 27, the island city will burst to life with the familiar energy of look-alike contests, literary readings, marlin fishing tournaments, and storytelling events — but this year, the atmosphere carries an extra layer of significance. The presence of Hemingway’s direct descendants and the estate’s board members brings a fresh spirit of stewardship and connection, bridging past and present in a celebration that’s as much about family as it is about history.
“To stand where Ernest lived, loved, and wrote is more than an honor—it’s a sacred pilgrimage,” said Angela Hemingway on behalf of the family. “Every story, every step here is a full-circle return, not just for our family, but for all who’ve kept his fire lit. Hemingway Days isn’t just a tribute—it’s a living legacy, passed hand to hand through time.”
This year’s festival holds special weight as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of Hemingway’s first major published work, In Our Time (1925). In tribute, the festivities will feature a unique literary retrospective curated by the family, showcasing rare photographs, first editions, and intimate archival reflections that paint a vivid picture of “Papa” Hemingway — the man, the myth, and the writer.
