Homestead Public Services Sanitation Requests Customers Limit Bulky Waste

ensuring continuity of operations for solid waste collection. Currently, HPS Sanitation crews are experiencing a much higher than normal volume of bulky waste, which is causing pickup delays and requiring employees to work additional hours to keep up with the increased demand. In fact, the amount of waste picked up in the past week is equivalent to what HPS normally picks up in an entire month.
“We know that it’s really tempting to use this time while you’re at home to get spring cleaning and home improvement projects done, but it is creating an overwhelming demand for staff,” said Julio Brea, Director of Public Works and Engineering for the City of Homestead. “We’re not telling residents to stop putting out bulky waste – just to limit the quantities to what is necessary.”
HPS Sanitation currently offers regular garbage pickups twice per week, recycling pickup once per week, and bulky waste pickup once per week. This is the highest level of bulk waste service offered in Miami-Dade County. For additional information on HPS Sanitation, visit www.cityofhomestead.com/solidwaste.
