Homestead is getting ready to host one of the most exciting car-race speed events. The Miami 12 Hours, organized by the Formula & Automobile Racing Association (FARA), will take place on December 8 and 9 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. On Friday the 8th, practice and prequalification of competitors are held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. And on Saturday, the races will start at 11 a.m. and run until 11 pm. Beginning at 9 o’clock in the morning, the doors will be opened to the public.

To celebrate Thanksgivings and bring a little holiday cheer, employees of the Florida Power and Light Company visited the Chapman Partnership Homeless Shelter in Homestead. This organization is dedicated to fighting against the lack of housing, a problem that affects many residents of Florida.
“We are proud to give a hand to organizations like the Chapman Homeless Shelter, that helps people without a home find a safe place to live,” said Bianca Cruz, spokesperson for the company.

Homestead Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough was announced as the 2018 winner of Miami-Dade County’s prestigious “In the Company of Women Award” for the Young Professionals category.  Now in its 30th year, “In the Company of Women” recognizes Miami-Dade’s women leaders for their trailblazing spirits and contributions to women’s progress.  Councilwoman Fairclough joins the ranks of other accomplished winners like Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Gloria Estefan.
