Volunteer Firefighters needed to answer The Call – When Disasters Strike, Be Part of the Solution

Making a difference, saving lives, developing new skills, and being part of a close knit team are all reasons people choose to become volunteer firefighters.
Every 24 seconds, somewhere in America, a fire department responds to a fire and firefighters are on the job, saving life and property. What many people may not realize is that most of these firefighters are volunteers. Seven out of 10 firefighters and emergency responders are volunteers, protecting their communities from a variety of hazards and saving taxpayers nationwide an estimated $140 billion a year. They come from all backgrounds, professions, ages, genders, races and ethnicities.
When an emergency strikes, firefighters are there to answer the call. In fact, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that fire departments responded to over 35 million calls in 2016. What people may not realize is that the majority of these firefighters are volunteers, donating their time and energy to be there for those in need.

What is a Volunteer Firefighter?
A volunteer firefighter is an individual who serves their community by performing firefighting duties on a voluntary basis, typically without remuneration. They undertake extensive training similar to their professional counterparts to respond effectively to fire emergencies and a host of other critical incidents.
Why Volunteer Firefighters are Effective
Volunteer firefighters bring unique benefits to their communities:
– Community Knowledge: As residents, they often have an intimate understanding of their communities, which can prove invaluable during emergencies.
– Cost-effectiveness: By serving voluntarily, they save local governments millions of dollars each year, resources that can be redirected to other essential services.
– Community Engagement: Volunteer firefighters foster stronger community relationships, encouraging more community involvement and awareness about safety issues.
