2018 Registration Now Open for CareerSource South Florida & Homestead Summer Job Program
The City of Homestead and CareerSource South Florida (CSSF) have partnered once again to find jobs for local students while school is out.
Enrollment is now open for the 2nd Annual Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), designed to place kids in entry-level positions with local businesses and community-based organizations. As part of the partnership, the City of Homestead will invest $50,000, while CSSF will invest $100,000.
“Homestead is proud to continue our partnership with CareerSource South Florida,” said Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter. “Last year, Homestead’s contribution helped CareerSource place more than a dozen Homestead students in summer jobs throughout the City—building students’ skills while helping local businesses and organizations thrive.”
Through a lottery process, the SYEP will provide summer youth employment to 86 students between the ages of 15-18. Participants must reside in the City of Homestead and purchase free or reduced lunch or be part of a family that receives TANF.
The program also boasts a 20-hour work readiness training where youth will learn skills such as: resume building, mock interviews, job application preparation, financial literacy, and life and time management.
“The Summer Youth Employment Program will allow youth to take on new responsibilities, gain on-the-job experience, transferable career readiness skills, and develop essential social skills that will help them achieve success in the future workforce, said Rick Beasley, Executive Director for CareerSource South Florida.
“Offering meaningful employment options and income to our youth is critical to supporting the efforts in the City of Homestead.”
