City of Homestead Swears In Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Councilmembers
On the evening of November 8th, Homestead welcomed Mayor Jeff Porter, Vice Mayor Stephen R. Shelley, Councilwoman Jenifer N. Bailey, and Councilman Elvis Maldonado for new terms on the dais.
Mayor Jeff Porter, with wife Cindy by his side, was sworn in by his mother, Marlene Porter-Berger, and his father. Mayor Porter will serve a two-year term as Mayor of Homestead. He was first elected to a two year term as Mayor in November 2013 and re-elected in November 2015. Before that, he served on the Homestead City Council for 10 years from 1997-2007 and served as Vice-Mayor from 1997-1999.
Vice Mayor Stephen R. Shelley took the Oath of Office administered by his brother, Gregory Shelley. Vice Mayor Shelley was elected to a two year term as Vice Mayor and a four year term as Councilman to represent Council Seat #1, which includes the city’s northwest district. He was first elected to the Homestead City Council in 2009 and re-elected to a term as Vice Mayor and Councilman in 2013.
Councilwoman Jenifer N. Bailey was sworn in by her husband, Kyle Bailey. Councilwoman Bailey is serving her first term as Councilwoman for Council Seat #4 for a four-year term. Previous to her election, Councilwoman Bailey was an active member of the Homestead community and serves as the director of Smart Start of Homestead, a church-based preschool.
Councilman Elvis Maldonado, with his daughter by his side, had his Oath of Office administered by Valerie Velez. Councilman Maldonado was re-elected to a four-year term in Council Seat #5, which includes the Waterstone Community. He was first elected as a Homestead a council member in that seat in 2009 and subsequently re-elected in 2013.
