DOH-Miami-Dade’s WIC Program hosts the 5th Annual Homestead/Florida City Health and Resource Fair
The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County WIC Program will host the 5th Annual Holiday Homestead/Florida City Health and Resource Fair at the Homestead/Florida City WIC clinic located at 753 West Palm Drive, Florida City, FL 33034 on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 9:30am – 1:30pm.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children – better known as the WIC Program – serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.
For the last 4 years, this event has provided the Homestead/Florida City community access to free health/dental screenings for children and adults, community resources and education. Last year approximately 1600 people participated and over 50 community organizations collaborated in the event. As a result, we were able to distribute 800 bags of food, 1,000 children’s books, 1,045 toys and over 45 health and dental screenings.
Families will be able to take a FREE memorable holiday photo with Santa and visit with local vendors, enjoy music, children activities including face painting, airbrush tattoos and balloon artist. We will have fitness classes, free massages, free food distribution by FarmShare, health and dental screenings for children and adults, and much more! Raffles will be conducted periodically throughout the fair giving away wonderful prizes!
