Homestead Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough was announced as the 2018 winner of Miami-Dade County’s prestigious “In the Company of Women Award” for the Young Professionals category.  Now in its 30th year, “In the Company of Women” recognizes Miami-Dade’s women leaders for their trailblazing spirits and contributions to women’s progress.  Councilwoman Fairclough joins the ranks of other accomplished winners like Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Gloria Estefan.

“It’s such an honor to be recognized alongside so many other inspiring women,” said Councilwoman Fairclough.  “As a public servant, it has always been my goal to encourage the next generation of women to serve their communities and to aspire to greatness.”

Councilwoman Fairclough was nominated for the Award by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava and selected by a committee comprised of event organizers and past award recipients.  Winners are selected based on how well they exemplify the highest ideals of womanhood and leadership: promotion of pluralism, professional development, community involvement, leadership and vision, and contribution to women’s progress.

For the last 30 years, the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, in partnership with the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade and the Miami-Dade Commission for Women, has presented “In the Company of Women,” to honor Miami-Dade County’s most amazing women.  The event celebrates these leaders during an awards ceremony, but it also serves as a time to highlight the work and contributions of The Women’s Park—a Miami-Dade County Park created to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women who help improve quality of life in the Miami-Dade community.  One of the Park’s seminal programs is the Girls Empowerment and Mentoring (G.E.M.) Summer Camp Program.  Proceeds from “In the Company of Women” provide support to more than 50 girls between the ages of 11 and 16 who participate in the G.E.M. Program.

Councilwoman Fairclough and the other outstanding winners will be honored at the “In the Company of Women” awards dinner on March 8, 2018.  Visit www.miamidade.gov/parks/company-of-women.asp for more information and a full list of current and past winners.
