The New Homestead Police Headquarters Will Open Soon

The construction of the new Homestead Police Headquarters successfully ended on time and on budget. The 55,000-square-foot, three-story facility was constructed specifically for law enforcement operations.
On February 15, the new facility will be opening for business. On Saturday February 25, there will be a Grand Opening Ceremony from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will kick off with a community parade at 2 p.m. The community is invited to tour the new facility located at 45 NW 1st Avenue, Homestead, FL 33030, and to munch on free refreshments and to listen to live music. Additionally, the community will have the opportunity to meet and greet the police department personnel who will be protecting the Homestead area.
With a vision to revitalize downtown Homestead, the new building was designed by Rodriguez & Quiroga Architects Chartered and built by Munilla Construction Management.
According to mayor Jeff Potter, when the voters approved the bond referendum for the new police headquarters, they weren’t just asking us to invest in keeping our police force safe; adding, “they were asking us to invest in the vision of a new downtown.”
The mayor said that he is keeping the promise he made by opening this building on time and on budget.
“We are continuing the momentum with our other projects to make downtown Homestead a place to live, work, and play,” said Mayor Porter.
The old police station was built in 1912, had toxic radon levels, mold problems and water damage issues, and was outdated and ill-equipped for 21st century law-enforcement operations, putting the life and safety of police personnel at risk.
The community approved the bond referendum for the new police headquarters with an overwhelming 74% approval and so provided funding to evacuate police personnel, temporarily relocate police operations, and construct the new police headquarters.
“I’ve been here for over 30 years and have seen Homestead grow and change so much. Nothing compares to this outpouring of support we’ve seen to keep our officers safe,” said Chief Rolle.
