City of Homestead to Conduct Routine Sewer Line Smoke Testing

Starting Monday, September 12, 2022 the City of Homestead will conduct routine sewer line smoke testing. The testing is a routine preventative maintenance test to identify leaks, defects, and stormwater inflows in the sewer system to improve wastewater treatment operations and efficiency. Residents will notice smoke test crews in neighborhoods over the next few weeks Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, weather permitting. Residents will receive door-hangers with additional information as crews move through neighborhoods to conduct testing.
Smoke testing consists of placing smoke in pipes and sewer lines and will be visible coming out of manhole covers and vent stacks in roofs and you should not be alarmed. You may notice small amounts of smoke inside your home, but please be advised the smoke is non-toxic, odorless, and safe for people, plants, and animals. Residents will not need to be present in the home during testing.
