FPL Surprises Miami-Dade Families With Free Christmas Trees and Energy-Efficient Lights
In a gesture designed to bring both joy and savings to local families this holiday season, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) will give away 200 Christmas trees and LED energy-efficient light strands on Tuesday, December 2, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s Hank Kline Club in Coral Way.
The community event, held from 5 to 7 p.m. with the line opening at 4 p.m., aims to support Miami-Dade residents during a time of rising costs while encouraging simple steps toward reduced energy consumption. The first 200 households in line will receive a complimentary five-foot Christmas tree and high-efficiency LED lighting, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The giveaway is part of FPL’s broader effort to help customers keep energy bills manageable throughout the holiday season. Representatives will be on-site sharing practical tips, tools and resources — including demonstrations of easy home adjustments that can significantly lower electricity usage.
Families will also learn about FPL’s Holiday House of Savings, an interactive platform that teaches customers energy-saving habits while giving them the chance to win an energy-efficiency prize box valued at $150. Additionally, each completed game triggers a $5 donation from FPL to the Care to Share® Electrical Assistance Program, which provides up to $750 in support for customers facing financial hardship.
For the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, the event aligns with a long-standing community tradition. For more than 75 years, the organization has sold Christmas trees, poinsettias and wreaths to support essential youth programs that include after-school tutoring, STEM education, arts and crafts, recreation, mentoring, and summer activities. These initiatives help more than a thousand local children and teens reach their full potential each year.
This year’s partnership with FPL brings a new layer of community support, offering families not only holiday cheer but also meaningful ways to stretch their household budgets.
