Miami-Dade and Broward Among Florida’s Safest Counties for Parks and Playgrounds

Florida ranks among the safest states in the nation for families visiting parks and playgrounds, according to a new study analyzing park-related abduction rates between 2020 and 2024.

The research, conducted by Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers in Las Vegas, reviewed national data on park and playground abductions using the FBI Crime Data Explorer. The findings placed Florida fifth nationwide, with an average of 0.224 park and playground abductions per million residents — 77.6% below the national average.

Across its population of more than 22 million, Florida recorded an average of five such incidents per year from 2020 to 2024 — an exceptionally low rate given the state’s large population and high volume of visitors.

South Florida Leads with Safer Public Spaces
While the study did not specify results by county, local data and initiatives show that Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach continue to stand out for their strong commitment to public safety and family-friendly environments.

In Miami-Dade, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces has increased patrol rounds and expanded camera surveillance in popular parks such as Tropical Park, Amelia Earhart Park, and Tamiami Park.

Broward County has implemented community policing and safety education programs through the Broward Sheriff’s Office, while Palm Beach County has enhanced park lighting, controlled entry points, and staff safety training.

A spokesperson for Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers noted:
“Florida’s strong results show how public awareness, active policing, and community engagement can make a real difference in ensuring family safety in outdoor spaces.”

The findings highlight how South Florida’s focus on prevention and local safety initiatives continues to set an example statewide, allowing residents and visitors alike to enjoy the Sunshine State’s parks with peace of mind.
