Why South Florida Has One of the Highest Vape Shop Densities in the U.S.

Between the sun-soaked beaches, vibrant nightlife, and cultural fusion, South Florida is known for setting trends—and now, it’s making clouds of its own. According to a new study by Huff and Puffers, Florida ranks as the seventh most vape-obsessed state in the U.S., and a big part of that reputation comes from its southern region.

Just How Vape-Crazy Is South Florida?
The study shows Florida has 14 vape shops per 100,000 adult residents, but when you zoom in on South Florida, the numbers are even more staggering.

Based on supplemental data from SmokeShops.com, Yelp, and Foursquare:
Miami-Dade County alone boasts over 180 vape shops.
Broward County has more than 110 vape locations across Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and surrounding cities.
Palm Beach County comes in with around 90 shops, with hot spots in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. That adds up to nearly 400 vape-related businesses across South Florida—easily outpacing the number of McDonald’s locations in the region.

Why Is Vaping So Popular Here?
Several factors contribute to South Florida’s vape obsession:
–  Year-round tropical weather
–  A booming tourism industry
–  A young, diverse, and socially active population
–  A nightlife scene where vaping has become a social norm

Bon Pang, CEO of Huff and Puffers, notes:
“States like Florida—especially areas with high tourism and a strong urban culture—tend to have more vape shops. It’s not just about demand; it’s about lifestyle.”

Vape Shops Outnumber Fast Food?
The original study revealed that in states like Nevada, Kentucky, and Florida, vape stores outnumber McDonald’s by a wide margin. South Florida mirrors that trend. In Miami-Dade alone, vape shops outpace McDonald’s by more than 3 to 1 in some neighborhoods.

What Does This Mean for the Community?
While vaping may be seen as a trendy or less harmful alternative to smoking, public health officials in South Florida are raising red flags—especially with the rising use among teens and young adults. Cities across the region are working on awareness campaigns and regulations to better manage the growing vape scene.

Bottom Line:
📍 South Florida isn’t just hot—it’s vaping hot.
💨 With hundreds of vape shops and a cloud-friendly culture, it’s becoming a key player in America’s vaping map.
🚨 But with growing concern from health experts, the region faces a new challenge: balancing freedom, business, and responsibility.
