Florida Reports a Burglary Every 22 Minutes

An analysis of FBI data reveals that Florida recorded more than 23,600 reported burglaries in 2025. Despite the concerning frequency, the state maintained a burglary rate below the national average.

A burglary was reported every 22 minutes in Florida during 2025, according to a new study conducted by Uplift Legal Funding using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The analysis identified 23,654 reported burglaries across participating jurisdictions statewide.

Despite the frequency of these crimes, Florida recorded a rate of 121.8 burglaries per 100,000 residents covered by reporting agencies, approximately 37.4% below the national average of 194.7.

Florida ranked 35th among the 49 states included in the analysis, placing it among the 15 states with the lowest reported burglary rates.

Miami Records Higher Financial Losses

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area recorded 5,450 reported burglaries, representing a rate of 144.7 incidents per 100,000 covered residents.

The region also reported a median stolen property value of $1,138 per burglary, the highest among Florida’s metropolitan areas examined in the study. However, Miami was excluded from the national metropolitan ranking because available reporting data covered only 58.9% of its population.

Jacksonville recorded the highest burglary rate among Florida’s major metropolitan areas, with 173 incidents per 100,000 residents. Tampa reported the lowest rate, at 82.8.

Who Faces the Greatest Risk?

The study also identified differences across age groups. While individuals ages 35 to 44 were most frequently identified as burglary victims, households headed by adults ages 18 to 24 experienced proportionally higher reported burglary rates.

Jared Stern, founder of Uplift Legal Funding, emphasized that burglaries can have consequences extending beyond financial losses, including property repair expenses and emotional distress.

Home Security Starts With Prevention

Among the recommended precautions are installing security cameras, alarm systems and outdoor lighting, along with reinforcing doors and windows.

Security experts also recommend ensuring all entry points remain properly locked whenever a home is unoccupied. Nationwide, the analysis identified 646,406 reported burglaries during 2025, equivalent to approximately one every 49 seconds.

Although Florida continues to report burglary rates below the national average, the findings highlight the importance of remaining vigilant and taking preventive measures to protect homes and families.

The study includes only burglaries reported to participating law enforcement agencies, meaning the actual number of incidents could be higher. Incomplete reporting coverage also requires caution when comparing certain cities and metropolitan areas.
