Le Jardin Community Center: $250K+ Federal Grant Fuels Garden-to-Table Education

With a historic commitment to children’s health and well-being, Le Jardin Community Center has been awarded a federal grant of more than a quarter of a million dollars by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF).
This recognition places Le Jardin among a select group of Head Start programs nationwide which, thanks to strong community initiatives and proven results, have earned this level of federal investment.
Innovation with Community Impact
The funds will help revolutionize the way children and families in Homestead learn about nutrition. New state-of-the-art hydroponic gardens will be installed, along with the expansion of existing raised garden beds. These educational tools will not only teach young children how to plant, grow, and harvest their own produce, but they will also engage parents and community members through interactive cooking demonstrations designed to foster healthy, sustainable lifestyles.
For CEO Eduardo Berrones, this initiative goes far beyond a simple gardening project:
“This is a game-changer for our children and our community. We are not only teaching kids how food grows, we are giving families the tools to transform the way they eat, live, and thrive.”
More than Nutrition, a Legacy of Well-Being
The federal award is more than just financial support – it is a demonstration of confidence in the essential role Le Jardin plays in Homestead. For decades, the center has positioned itself as a community pillar, offering high-quality early education, family resources, and comprehensive support to thousands of working families in the area.
With this new boost, Le Jardin is setting a national precedent in garden-to-table education, ensuring that learning extends not only into classrooms but also into the homes of every family it serves.
The Importance of Continued Support
The Homestead community depends on programs like Le Jardin to strengthen childhood well-being and provide equal opportunities. The arrival of these federal funds is a collective victory and underscores the importance of ensuring that such investments continue in the future.
Sustaining these resources will allow community centers like Le Jardin to keep growing, promoting health, inclusion, and educational excellence that benefit the entire community—today and for generations to come.
