University of Miami’s Frost School of Music earns 11th consecutive spot on Billboard’s Top Music Business Schools
The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami has once again been named to Billboard’s prestigious annual list of Top Music Business Schools, marking the 11th consecutive year the elite program receives the honor since the ranking’s inception. The achievement underscores the strength of its standalone Music Industry program, led by Interim Vice Dean Serona Elton, and reaffirms Miami as a training ground for the global music economy.
At the forefront of the recognition is the innovative Frost Method®, an academic approach that blends multidisciplinary training with hands-on, real-world experience. The formula is clear: faculty with careers at leading companies, high-potential students, a powerful alumni network, and collaborations with top-tier artists. Set within the vibrant cultural ecosystem of Coral Gables and Miami, Frost has become synonymous with excellence and employability in a fast-evolving industry.
The distinction arrives amid a period of institutional momentum. As Dean Shelly Berg enters his final year before resuming his acclaimed, GRAMMY-nominated performance career, Serona Elton has assumed the role of interim vice dean and director of the Music Industry Program. Elton celebrates the impact of alumni “in every sector of the business,” from executive leadership and legal counsel to philanthropic initiatives, and highlights the steady growth of a program that integrates classrooms, student organizations, and student-run enterprises such as ’Cane Records, Cat 5 Music, and Frost Sounds.
Frost’s reach is also evident on the awards circuit. Eight alumni and faculty are among the nominees for the 2025 Latin GRAMMYs, with winners to be announced November 13 in Las Vegas. In addition, three graduates were recognized as Billboard Latin Power Players, reinforcing the school’s influence on the Latin music scene and its leadership pipeline to companies like Sony Music Publishing, Concord Music Publishing, and Double P Records.
With more than 140 students across its undergraduate and graduate music industry programs, and a faculty roster with experience at Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, SESAC, and The Mechanical Licensing Collective, Frost continues to tighten the connection between classroom and marketplace. The “Frost Built” ethos—shaped by the Frost Method®—captures that promise: developing versatile, creative professionals ready to lead.
For a city that lives and breathes music, the news is also a point of local pride. Serona Elton is available for interviews, and official materials can be accessed via the institution’s approved repository.
