Miami-Dade Metrorail Adjusts Service Schedules Due to Improvements at Dadeland South Station

Passengers who rely on Miami-Dade County’s Metrorail system should be aware of temporary service changes currently in effect as part of infrastructure improvements at Dadeland South Station. The modifications, implemented by the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), are expected to remain in place through early April 2026 and may affect train frequency, travel times, and passenger flow across the rail network.

According to transportation officials, the temporary changes are necessary to support long-term upgrades designed to improve reliability and enhance the overall rider experience throughout the county’s rail system.

Modified Train Frequency During Weekdays
Due to single-track operations at Dadeland South, trains are currently operating on a modified schedule. During weekday peak commuting hours, both Green Line and Orange Line trains are running approximately every 10 to 12 minutes, compared to the typical 5 to 7 minutes riders usually experience.

Outside peak hours, the interval between trains may increase further. Weekday service during mid-day and other non-peak periods may range between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on operational conditions.

Transportation officials are encouraging riders to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as the adjusted schedules could result in higher passenger volumes at certain stations and on trains, particularly during rush hours.

Orange Line Service to Miami International Airport
Passengers traveling on the Orange Line to and from Miami International Airport (MIA) should also expect modified service during the improvement period.During weekday peak hours — from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Orange Line trains will operate approximately every 10 to 12 minutes.

During mid-day hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., train frequency may range between 15 and 30 minutes.

After 8 p.m., standard evening operations remain in place with single-track service, meaning passengers traveling between the airport and other destinations may need to transfer from the Airport Shuttle Train to the main Green Line at Earlington Heights Station.

Assistance Available for Riders
Miami-Dade transit officials also reminded passengers that station security personnel are available to assist riders, particularly during busy travel periods when trains may be operating at higher capacity.

Travelers who require additional support, including those eligible for Special Transportation Service (STS), are encouraged to consider using the STS program while the modified rail service remains in effect. The service provides transportation assistance for riders with qualifying accessibility needs.

Building a Stronger Transit System
While the temporary schedule changes may create inconvenience for some commuters, transportation officials say the improvements are essential to maintaining and strengthening the region’s transit infrastructure.

“Dependable transit service is critical for our community,” officials noted. “These temporary adjustments are necessary to complete improvements that will enhance the long-term reliability and performance of the Metrorail system.”

Riders are encouraged to monitor service updates and plan their trips accordingly as Miami-Dade continues working to improve the county’s public transportation network.
