Ocala Emerges as One of the Most Popular Places to Move in Florida and Nationwide

Florida continues to stand out as one of the most desirable states for relocation, and Ocala has emerged as a leading destination for people looking to make a move. According to the latest moveBuddha Migration Report, Ocala ranks as the second most popular city in the United States for inbound moves in 2025, underscoring its growing appeal on both a state and national level.

The data highlights a strong migration trend: for every 100 people who moved out of Ocala, 309 new residents moved in. While the city held the top position last year, it was narrowly surpassed this year by Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, yet still remains firmly positioned among the country’s fastest-growing relocation hubs.

Experts point to affordability as one of the key drivers behind Ocala’s rise. Compared to many other Florida cities, Ocala offers more accessible home prices, a lower overall cost of living, and a wide range of housing options. These factors have made the city particularly attractive to retirees, remote workers, and families seeking financial flexibility without sacrificing quality of life.

Located in central Florida, Ocala blends natural beauty with cultural and historical appeal. Residents and newcomers alike enjoy destinations such as Fort King National Historic Park, the Appleton Museum of Art, and the crystal-clear waters of Silver Springs State Park, as well as easy access to the expansive Ocala National Forest. With an estimated population of 70,251 residents, the city maintains a strong sense of community while continuing to experience steady growth.

The report also reveals that Ocala’s inbound-to-outbound move ratio increased by more than 74% compared to the previous year, marking one of the most significant jumps nationwide. This growth aligns with broader migration patterns across Florida, as cities like Port St. Lucie, Palm Coast, and Kissimmee also saw notable increases in relocation interest.

A common thread among these rising Florida destinations is their classification as “micro-destinations.” These smaller cities attract newcomers by offering quieter lifestyles, access to outdoor recreation, single-story housing options, and relief from the congestion and high costs of major metropolitan areas. For many movers, they represent a balanced alternative to larger urban centers.

The moveBuddha analysis is based on search data from its Moving Cost Calculator between January 2020 and December 2025, providing a forward-looking view of where Americans are planning to relocate. With its affordability, natural amenities, and continued population growth, Ocala has firmly established itself as one of Florida’s most attractive cities to move to, reflecting a broader shift in how and where people choose to build their future.
