WIC Changes Infant Formula in Florida: What Miami-Dade Families Need to Know

The transition to a new formula brand is now in effect and could impact how thousands of parents shop — here’s what is changing, who is affected, and how to prepare.

The WIC program continues to serve as an essential resource for thousands of families across Miami-Dade, and it has recently announced an important update that will directly affect parents and caregivers with infants enrolled in the program. As of February 1, 2026, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Florida has transitioned its contracted infant formula from Enfamil to Similac as the new primary brand for eligible participants.

This change is part of the program’s routine process to ensure access to safe, nutritious options that meet federal health standards. For families enrolling in WIC on or after that date, available formulas will include Similac Advance, Similac Sensitive, Similac Total Comfort, and Similac Soy Isomil — all designed to support healthy growth and development during the earliest months of life.

Officials emphasize that the transition has been carefully planned to avoid disruptions in infant feeding. Families who received benefits with the “All Contract Powder Formula” between November 2025 and January 2026 may continue purchasing Enfamil products — such as Infant, Gentlease, A.R., or Reguline — for the duration of their currently issued benefits on their WIC EBT card. The switch to Similac will appear in upcoming benefit cycles.

Additionally, infants who rely on a specific formula for approved medical reasons will not be required to switch, a measure intended to protect continuity of care and address individual health needs.

Nutrition experts note that updates like this are common within federal programs and do not compromise the quality of nutrition infants receive. Both Enfamil and Similac meet strict regulatory requirements, allowing parents to feel confident in using either approved option.

Beyond the brand transition, WIC remains committed to supporting maternal and child health through healthy foods, personalized nutrition counseling, breastfeeding education, and medical referrals. This comprehensive approach has made the program a cornerstone for many families seeking to give their children the strongest possible start in life.

Officials encourage parents to review their WIC EBT balance to confirm which formula is authorized and to contact their local WIC office if the needed option does not appear. Direct guidance can help families avoid confusion while shopping.
