Fear of Needles Named Florida’s Biggest Phobia, Study Finds
A new study has revealed that trypanophobia – the fear of needles and injections – is Florida’s most searched phobia, and the data shows that residents in Miami-Dade and Broward are no exception. With 25,553 monthly Google searches, this phobia tops the list in the Sunshine State, surpassing other common fears such as agoraphobia and phasmophobia.
According to the analysis by public speaking anxiety experts AmberWillo, which reviewed search data for 165 different phobias, Floridians are frequently looking for information about fears that significantly impact their lives. The study found that Florida averages 156,268 phobia-related searches per month, ranking thirty-third nationwide, with about 691.1 searches per 100,000 people—slightly below the national average.
Miami-Dade and Broward: Local Impact
Healthcare professionals across Miami-Dade and Broward have observed how needle anxiety can delay or complicate medical treatments, especially when it comes to vaccinations, blood tests, or routine procedures. Local clinics often report that patients with trypanophobia either postpone appointments or experience intense stress before procedures involving injections.
In communities like Hialeah, Hollywood, and Fort Lauderdale, where large populations rely on frequent healthcare visits, the fear of needles can be particularly disruptive. Pediatricians in Broward have also noted the growing challenge among children and teenagers, where anxiety over shots can make standard immunization campaigns more difficult to implement.

While needle fear is number one in Florida, it is also the most searched phobia in 36 states nationwide, including New York, Texas, and California.
