Swimming Lessons for Children in Homestead: Registration Now Open
The City of Homestead has announced the launch of a new Swimming Lessons Program for Children and Youth, a community-focused initiative designed to promote water safety, swim readiness, and accident prevention among local families. The first session of the program will begin on February 9, 2026, and registration is now open with limited availability.
The program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, a federal initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Its goal is to support services that benefit low-to-moderate income residents. In South Florida, where water-related activities are part of everyday life, access to proper swim education plays a critical role in protecting children and strengthening community safety.
The swimming lessons will take place over an intensive two-week period, running Monday through Thursday, and will be taught by certified instructors to ensure a safe, structured, and age-appropriate learning environment. All participants are required to commit to attending every scheduled class throughout the full two-week session, as consistency is essential for building effective swimming skills.
The program is open to youth ages 3 to 17, with daily class options tailored to different age groups and experience levels. From 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the Parent & Child Aquatics class is offered for children ages 3 to 5, allowing parents and young children to learn together while focusing on basic water safety and comfort. From 6:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Learn to Swim – Level 1 class is available for participants ages 6 to 17, emphasizing foundational swimming techniques and water confidence.
All classes will be held at the Roby George Park Pool, located at 275 SW 11th Avenue, Homestead, FL 33030, a well-known and easily accessible community facility.
Participation is limited to City of Homestead residents who meet low-to-moderate income eligibility requirements. Documentation will be required for verification purposes. City officials strongly encourage families to register early, as space is limited and interest in the program is expected to be high.
For registration and additional information, residents may call 786-575-3619 or 954-607-0115, or visit www.homesteadfl.gov/swim. This program offers families a valuable opportunity to invest in their children’s safety, confidence, and long-term well-being through essential swimming education.
