Miami-Dade Welcomes the 2025–2026 School Year with Pride and Excellence

In Miami-Dade County, back-to-school season is more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a celebration of achievement, commitment, and new opportunities. On Thursday, August 14, thousands of students will return to Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), a district that consistently proves academic excellence is no accident, but the result of an entire community working together.

A High-Performing District
The start of this school year comes with exciting news: the Florida Department of Education has once again awarded M-DCPS an “A” rating for the 2024–2025 academic year.

The numbers speak for themselves:
– 64% of schools earned an A
– 22% earned a B
– 14% earned a C
– No schools received an F

In total, 99% of M-DCPS schools achieved top ratings. This outstanding performance reflects the dedication of students, teachers, administrators, and families who work hand in hand to uphold an educational standard that serves as a model across the state.

“Our trajectory of excellence is a testament to the incredible work of our students, teachers, staff, and leaders,” said Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres. “We remain committed to providing the best educational opportunities and continuing to be the top choice for our community.”

Getting Ready for the Big Day
For many, the first day of school means reconnecting with friends, meeting new teachers, and opening notebooks filled with blank pages ready for new stories. For parents, it’s a time of organization and preparation—uniforms, schedules, transportation, and extracurricular activities.

This year, planning comes with some welcome financial relief: Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs the entire month of August, from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 31. During this time, clothing, footwear, and backpacks priced at $100 or less, school supplies priced at $50 or less, and personal computers for home use priced at $1,500 or less will be exempt from state and local sales taxes. It’s the perfect opportunity to stock up without straining the family budget.

A Community Commitment
M-DCPS’s academic success extends beyond the classroom. The Miami-Dade community plays an essential role, from local businesses offering discounts on supplies and services to organizations supporting extracurricular programs. The shared message is clear: education is everyone’s priority.

Looking Ahead
This new school year is an opportunity to build on an already strong foundation. With motivated teachers, eager students, and a community committed to learning, 2025–2026 promises to be a year of growth, achievement, and inspiration.

In Miami-Dade, back-to-school is not just the end of summer—it’s the start of new goals, challenges, and victories. And with a district that leads in excellence, the possibilities for every student are as limitless as their dreams.
