Manatee Lagoon Invites Families to Explore Marine Life Through Free Virtual Summer Camps

Summer break is just around the corner, and families across South Florida have a new opportunity to combine fun and learning from home. Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center has officially opened registration for its Summer at the Lagoon programs, offering a variety of free educational experiences designed to inspire children’s curiosity about wildlife, ocean science, and environmental conservation.

One of the season’s most anticipated programs is the award-winning Wild About Wildlife Virtual Summer Camp, now celebrating its seventh year. Developed in partnership with leading environmental organizations, including Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium and other conservation groups, the camp provides engaging and interactive learning opportunities for young explorers.

The week-long virtual camp experiences allow children to discover the fascinating world of animals and marine ecosystems through live wildlife observations, hands-on science experiments, educational games, crafts, and lessons led by experienced educators and environmental experts. While the program is designed primarily for children ages 6 to 9, participants of all ages are welcome to join.

Camp sessions will take place June 15–19 and July 20–24, featuring half-day afternoon schedules. Participants will enjoy a combination of live presentations, pre-recorded content, and self-paced activities, providing flexibility for families while maintaining an engaging educational experience.

“Children from all communities can greatly benefit from this unique virtual camp experience,” said Rachel Shanker, Manatee Lagoon’s Conservation & Education Manager. “Through the incredible support of our partnering organizations, we’re able to spark curiosity, build a love for nature, and show the next generation why protecting Florida’s wildlife matters.

”The camp is completely free for families and individuals, with an optional donation opportunity to support the environmental and educational missions of the organizations that help make the program possible. Due to limited availability and growing popularity each year, advance registration is required.

In addition to the virtual camp, Manatee Lagoon is also offering another free family-friendly program, Manatee Tales: Adventures with Mia and Friends. Held every Saturday, the program includes a guided tour led by a Manatee Master, interactive storytime sessions focused on marine life, and fun take-home crafts inspired by the day’s featured book. The program is open to children ages 3 and older.

As interest in environmental education continues to grow, Summer at the Lagoon remains one of Florida’s most innovative and accessible opportunities for children to learn about nature, wildlife, and conservation while having fun throughout the summer months.

Families interested in participating are encouraged to register early and reserve their spot before sessions fill up.For more information and registration details, visit VisitManateeLagoon.com.
