City of Homestead’s Turnpike Interchange Project Included in Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization’s List of Priority Projects
The City of Homestead is proud to announce that a major traffic improvement plan for a new turnpike entrance and exit, at Lucy Street, has been included in the Miami-Dade County Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The plan was approved at the June Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) Board meeting held on June 27, 2024. The purpose of the board is to guide the transportation planning process in Miami-Dade County.
This monumental achievement is thanks to the leadership and advocacy of Homestead’s City Council. Mayor Losner serves as a member of the board and his participation was instrumental in ensuring that the project was included in the priority list. Councilwoman Ávila attended the meeting and spoke passionately about the impact the new addition would have on the Homestead community.
The inclusion of this project in the plan is a significant milestone for the City of Homestead, ensuring that funding needs for the upcoming Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Tentative Five-Year Work Program are met. The TPO List of Priority Projects (LOPP) is a critical tool utilized by FDOT and other transportation partner agencies to allocate funding for projects based on anticipated federal, state, and local revenues, as required under Florida Statute 339.175.
Additionally, there are several other roadway projects, either wholly or partially within the city, included in the TPO Cost Feasible Plan, which will be considered by the TPO Board in September 2024. The City of Homestead is actively monitoring these projects.
