On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 4:30 p.m., the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade County District 8 Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava will officially dedicate and cut the ribbon for the new “South Dade Park Aquatic Center/Helen Sands Pool.” Everyone is invited to attend and browse the new pool facilities.
“This new aquatic complex is going to be a favorite family gathering spot in South Dade,” said Commissioner Levine Cava. “Here residents and their children can enjoy healthy, safe pool recreation, with exciting options that include Learn2Swim, water exercise classes, and splash and play activities! And as the summer approaches, this pool will certainly help everyone escape the heat. However, I urge parents, before they let their children step into the water, make sure they know how to swim. If they haven’t had swim lessons, please sign them up today.”
“I am so pleased to see the new South Dade Park Aquatic Center and Helen Sands Pool open for business. What a great addition this is to this park,” said Maria I. Nardi, Miami-Dade Parks Director. “Miami-Dade Parks is working to develop more top-grade pool facilities like this, throughout the parks system, as part of its community-wide efforts to get every child water ready, with swim lessons.”
Miami-Dade Parks Design and Build Team completed the project in conjunction with architectural and engineering consultants Forbes Architects, Witkin Hults Design Group, EAC Consulting, Inc., TLC Engineers, Counsilman-Hunsaker, and construction contractor Lunacon Construction Group, Corp.
Funding was provided by the “Building Better Communities” General Obligation Bond (BBC-GOB) Program, Impact Fees and the Quality Neighborhood Improvement Program.
The 8.61-acre park also features new U.S. Soccer Foundation & Target Soccer Mini Pitches, as well as basketball courts, a playground, a Fitness Zone, a skate park, and a walkway. Miami-Dade Parks Fit2Play™ after-school and out-of-school/seasonal camps for kids and the Active Older Adults program are also offered at this site. Facility rentals are also available.
