New data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reveals a troubling trend for elderly residents in Florida: seniors aged 60 to 69 have lost over $25.59 million to fraud this year alone, with an average loss of $800 per victim.

According to research by cryptocurrency exchange ChicksX, which analyzed FTC data for 2025, more than 27% of Florida residents aged 60 to 69 who reported fraud experienced financial losses. Nationally, the FTC reported 60,379 fraud complaints from Americans aged 60 to 69 during the first quarter of 2025, with 29% resulting in financial losses totaling over $354.9 million. The median loss per report was $597—meaning Florida seniors lost roughly 34% more per victim than the average American in this age group.

Fraudsters often exploit the natural trust of seniors by posing as legitimate business or government representatives. These impersonation scams pressure victims into acting quickly, often resulting in significant financial harm.

While fraud reports tend to decline as age increases, losses per victim tend to rise:
