FPL: 3 Tips to Ward Off Energy-Draining Phantoms This Halloween
It may be spooky season, but phantom energy is nothing to be scared of thanks to these three energy-saving tips from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). Energy vampires like coffee makers and video game consoles quietly consume energy and can drive up your bill 5 – 10% even when they’re turned off.
See below for tips on how you can identify the top culprits and help keep your energy bills as low as possible all season long.
The Tips:
• Identify Energy Vampires: Coffee makers, phone and laptop chargers, entertainment systems and printers maintain a constant power draw due to LED lights or digital displays. Unplug them when not in use to save 5 – 10%.
• Power Strips and Timers to the Rescue: Use power strips to consolidate plugs and remember to turn them off when not in use to save up to $100 a year. Also, consider using a timer to automatically power off devices if you won’t be home to turn them off.
• FPL’s Tools for Ghostbusting: Play FPL’s House of Savings Challenge, an online game where participants can learn more ways to reduce energy usage and compete for a chance to win a prize pack worth $150!
