FPL Strengthens Its Commitment to Families Through the Care To Share Program
During times of financial uncertainty, reliable support can make a meaningful difference. In that context, Florida Power & Light (FPL) continues to play a critical role in the community through Care To Share, an assistance program designed to help customers experiencing temporary financial hardship avoid the loss of an essential service: electricity.
Care To Share operates as an emergency fund that provides relief to individuals and families facing unexpected challenges such as job loss, sudden illness, or other personal emergencies. Its mission is clear—to keep the lights on for households when they need it most, offering stability during moments of crisis.
A program rooted in community support
Bianca Soriano, Communications Manager at Florida Power & Light Company, she emphasized that Care To Share reflects FPL’s longstanding commitment to its customers and the communities it serves. “Programs like Care To Share demonstrate our continued dedication to doing what’s right for our customers and our communities. Every FPL employee shares that responsibility,” Soriano noted.

One of the program’s defining features is its transparency. Care To Share is funded entirely through voluntary donations from FPL customers, employees, and shareholders, along with corporate contributions from the company. One hundred percent of the funds collected go directly to qualifying households, with no administrative costs deducted.
Direct impact in Miami-Dade County
In Miami-Dade County, Care To Share funds are administered by the Department of Community Action and Human Services, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. These community agencies review applications, determine eligibility, and distribute assistance to those most in need.
Eligible customers may receive help paying their FPL electric bills and, in certain cases, covering essential electrical repairs required to safely restore service. Assistance is available once within a 12-month period, for up to $750, depending on available funding.
Households that include seniors, children under 10 years old, or individuals with disabilities may receive priority consideration, recognizing their heightened vulnerability during periods of financial stress.
Beyond emergency assistance
Care To Share is part of FPL’s broader commitment to customer support, which also includes the ASSIST program in collaboration with social service partners, connections to state and federal assistance programs such as LIHEAP and EHEAP, and payment extensions for eligible customers.
For community members who wish to give back, FPL offers simple ways to contribute—through recurring monthly donations starting at $1 added to their electric bill, or one-time contributions at any time.
In a community where unexpected hardships can disrupt daily life, Care To Share stands as a vital resource, underscoring how collective support can help families maintain stability when it matters most.
