Ximenez-Fatio House Museum Seeks Another Place Among Florida’s Best Museums

The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum is once again earning statewide recognition after being nominated for the 2026 Best of Florida Awards in the Museum category.

The nomination marks another important achievement for an institution that has been named one of Florida’s top museums for the past two years. It reflects the museum’s historical significance, the quality of the visitor experience and the dedication of the staff, volunteers and supporters who work to preserve one of St. Augustine’s most treasured landmarks.

Located at 20 Aviles Street, the Ximenez-Fatio House is one of the best-preserved and most authentic residential buildings from Florida’s Second Spanish Period. The property dates back to 1798, when it was built by Andrés Ximenez, a Spanish merchant.

During the early 19th century, the house became a boarding house managed by women and played an important role in the social and cultural life of St. Augustine. Its history offers a compelling look at the people, traditions and daily experiences that helped shape one of the nation’s oldest cities.

The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and was designated a Florida Heritage Landmark in 2012, further confirming its value as an important part of the state’s cultural heritage.

Today, the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum offers visitors an immersive journey into the past through carefully preserved rooms, authentic artifacts, educational programs and special events. Guests can explore the stories of the residents and travelers who passed through the house while learning more about the diverse history of St. Augustine and Florida.

The latest nomination is an accomplishment worth celebrating. It also gives the community an opportunity to support a museum that continues to protect local history and make it accessible to residents, students and visitors from around the world.

Voting for the 2026 Best of Florida Awards will remain open throughout July. Supporters may cast one vote every 24 hours, meaning every person has multiple opportunities to help the museum earn another statewide distinction.
