FPL Encourages Florida Families to Celebrate a Brighter, Energy-Efficient Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is helping Floridians celebrate with purpose — combining festive cheer, energy awareness, and community giving. Through its Care To Share® program and interactive House of Savings experience, FPL is empowering customers to lower their bills while supporting neighbors in need.

The Care To Share® program provides up to $750 in assistance per year to customers facing financial hardship, helping families keep their homes powered through difficult times. This holiday season, FPL is pairing that goodwill with a fun, educational initiative: the House of Savings Challenge, an interactive virtual home tour that shows participants easy ways to save energy.

In this online experience, users can explore various parts of a virtual home — from the refrigerator to the thermostat — and discover simple, practical energy-saving tips. For every completed game between now and December 22, FPL will donate $5 to the Care To Share® fund, up to $10,000 total, to provide vital assistance for Floridians in crisis.

Participants also have the chance to win one of 80 Holiday Energy-Efficiency Boxes, each valued at $150 and packed with energy-saving essentials to make the season brighter.

Winners can choose between two themed boxes:
Kitchen Box: smart outlet, toaster oven, and LED-lit wreath.
Outdoor Box: LED string lights, outdoor timer outlet, solar lawn stakes, and decorative window clings.

Winners can also nominate another Floridian to receive a prize box, spreading holiday joy and the message of energy efficiency across the state.

FPL is also sharing simple ways to keep energy bills low during the holidays:
– Use LED string lights or solar-powered décor, which consume 80–90% less energy and last up to 10 times longer than traditional lights.
– Plug inflatables and lights into timers to prevent overnight energy waste.
– Avoid “phantom energy” costs by using smart power strips.
– Choose ornaments, wreaths, and ribbons for festive, energy-free decorating.
– When cooking, use smaller appliances like air fryers or toaster ovens, which consume one-third the power of a traditional oven.
