FPL supports Hurricane Isaias survivors with $2 million in assistance
Recovering from a hurricane means more than getting the lights back on. For many families, it also means facing repairs and bills when household budgets are already stretched thin. In the Florida Panhandle, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and its community partners are connecting customers affected by Hurricane Isaias with more than $2 million in immediate financial assistance.
According to the company’s announcement, the funding helps cover utility bills, qualifying electrical repairs and other basic needs. Through two programs, eligible customers could receive up to $3,200 in combined bill credits and repair grants.
Support reaching households
Through FPL Saving Steps, the company is proactively extending a $200 bill credit to nearly 10,000 previously income-qualified customers in storm-affected areas. The program also considers households that earn too much to qualify for traditional government assistance but still face financial challenges.
For example, a family of four earning less than $90,000 in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties may qualify. Eligibility depends on household size, income, county and program requirements
Repairs that help restore service
FPL Care To Share offers up to $2,000 for qualifying electrical repairs to customer-owned equipment, including damaged meter boxes or weatherheads. These repairs may be necessary before a home can safely receive electricity. The program also provides bill credits of up to $1,000 to help eligible customers pay their utility bills.
J.T. Young, vice president and general manager of FPL’s Northwest Florida Region, explained that the company’s commitment goes beyond restoring power. It also aims to help customers return to their everyday lives.
Working alongside the community
Partnerships with local organizations help bring these resources to families who need guidance. Frantz Moise, lieutenant of the Salvation Army of Pensacola, said expanded eligibility can reach people who previously did not qualify and are one crisis away from being unable to pay their monthly bills. That assistance can ease immediate financial pressure while households address storm damage and work toward recovery. The effort brings together FPL’s assistance programs and community partners helping residents find available support.
FPL and its partners will continue sharing information about financial assistance and recovery resources throughout affected communities, helping customers understand their options during a difficult period.
Customers can visit FPL.com/Assistance to learn about available programs and apply. Reviewing eligibility requirements is the first step toward identifying support that could help reduce the financial burden left by the storm. For families balancing repairs with everyday expenses, these resources offer practical help as they begin rebuilding their routines and restoring stability at home.
