Girls Got Game Returns to Tropical Park with Free Sports Activities for Girls
Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) is once again spotlighting youth sports with the return of Girls Got Game, an annual event held in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The event will take place on Saturday, February 7, at Tropical Park Stadium, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Designed for girls ages 6 to 17, Girls Got Game offers a dynamic, hands-on sports experience that is both educational and fun. Throughout the morning, participants will rotate through a series of interactive sports clinics, exploring activities such as golf, netball, soccer, hockey, and volleyball in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Each clinic will be led by experienced coaches and athletes who will guide participants through skill-building exercises focused on movement, coordination, teamwork, and confidence. Rather than emphasizing competition, the event prioritizes enjoyment, learning, and active participation, encouraging girls to try new sports and discover activities they may wish to pursue long-term.
Girls Got Game is part of Miami-Dade Parks’ ongoing commitment to providing inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities for the community. By offering free programming in a public park setting, the department aims to remove barriers to participation and promote healthy habits from an early age. The initiative also highlights the role of parks as vital community spaces where young residents can stay active, connect with peers, and develop positive lifestyle routines.
Tropical Park, one of Miami-Dade County’s most well-known recreational spaces, will serve as the backdrop for the event, providing ample facilities for sports instruction and group activities. Organizers note that the park’s central location and family-friendly atmosphere make it an ideal venue for a countywide youth sports initiative.
The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required to participate. Registration is now open, and families can sign up through the ParkLink platform or contact Courtney De Stefano at 786-527-0322 for additional information.
With a focus on physical activity, learning, and community engagement, Girls Got Game returns as a key event on Miami-Dade’s recreational calendar. The program reinforces the value of introducing girls to sports in a positive setting, helping foster a lifelong connection to active and healthy living.
