FPL Expands STEM Scholarships: Students Must Apply by May 4 Deadline
Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has announced an expansion of its scholarship opportunities for high school seniors passionate about STEM fields, now offering three scholarships. However, students are urged to act quickly, as the application deadline is May 4, 2026.
The program includes two $20,000 scholarships for students who have participated in robotics programs such as FIRST, VEX, or B.E.S.T., and one $5,000 scholarship for students involved in the Drones in School program.“We’re thrilled to expand our scholarship programs for eligible high school seniors,” said Kate Cotner, FPL’s director of community engagement. “Robotics and drones offer incredible opportunities for students to develop essential skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation—skills that are critical in today’s rapidly evolving world.”
These scholarships are designed to support students pursuing higher education in STEM-related fields, helping provide the resources needed for academic success.The impact of these scholarships is already evident. Umair Kazi, the 2025 recipient of FPL’s Robotics Scholarship, shared that the award allowed him to attend Georgia Tech out of state. “This scholarship was extremely beneficial for both myself and my family. I’m very grateful,” he said.
Applications are open to public and private high school seniors within FPL’s service area. Requirements include participation in robotics or drone programs for at least two years, good academic standing (for robotics applicants), and letters of recommendation.
