Florida State University Introduces New Degree Focused on Civic Leadership and Modern Governance
In response to growing concerns about civic engagement and public discourse, Florida State University has announced the launch of a new undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for leadership in today’s complex social and political landscape. The program, titled Civics and Liberty Studies (CLS), will welcome its first cohort in the upcoming fall semester.
Developed through the Institute for Governance and Civics, the degree reflects a broader effort to bridge the gap between foundational democratic principles and the practical skills required in modern civic and professional environments.
The interdisciplinary curriculum integrates core elements of the liberal arts—such as political philosophy, constitutional thought, and civil discourse—with analytical and data-driven approaches, including statistics, survey research, and public policy analysis.
