Carnival Cruise Line Presents Isla Tropicale: A New Caribbean Experience Inviting South Florida Travelers to Discover Roatán
Travelers across South Florida searching for their next tropical getaway now have another reason to place Roatán, Honduras, at the top of their vacation list. Carnival Cruise Line has officially unveiled a new identity and expanded recreational experience for its exclusive destination in the Caribbean, now rebranded as Isla Tropicale.
The destination, previously known as Mahogany Bay, introduces a refreshed concept designed to elevate the visitor experience while continuing to showcase the natural beauty, culture, and hospitality that have made Roatán one of the Caribbean’s most popular cruise destinations.
At the center of the expansion is the debut of Mangrove Bay, a newly developed 48,000-square-foot recreational area that adds a resort-style atmosphere for visitors arriving on Carnival cruises. The new space features the destination’s first large pool area, complete with a swim-up bar, poolside beverage service, cabanas, lounge areas, and a dedicated splash pad designed for younger guests and families.
The upgraded experience reflects Carnival’s continued investment in Caribbean tourism and its broader Paradise Collection portfolio of exclusive destinations.
“New features, including the destination’s first pool area, will elevate the guest experience at Isla Tropicale,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, while highlighting the company’s long-term partnership with Roatán and Honduras.
For South Florida residents — many of whom frequently cruise from nearby ports such as PortMiami — the destination offers a convenient and vibrant Caribbean escape combining relaxation, entertainment, shopping, and island culture.
Beyond the new pool area, Isla Tropicale features 52 shops, local artisan kiosks, multiple restaurants and bars, scenic oceanview cabanas, and a chairlift offering panoramic views of the island’s tropical coastline. The destination can accommodate Carnival’s Excel- and Vista-class ships, bringing thousands of visitors to the island each year.
Since first opening in 2009, Carnival’s destination in Roatán has welcomed nearly nine million visitors and generated an estimated $750 million in economic impact, supporting more than 1,300 local jobs. Local tourism leaders say the continued investment strengthens Roatán’s reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most welcoming and sustainable tourism destinations.
The island’s beach has also received international recognition, earning the Honduras Blue Flag Award and a five-star rating in both 2024 and 2025 for environmental management, safety, water quality, accessibility, and sustainable tourism practices.
