City of Homestead Invites Community to Free Hurricane Preparedness Distribution Event

As hurricane season begins across Florida, the City of Homestead is continuing its efforts to help local families prepare for potential severe weather emergencies. As part of the city’s ongoing commitment to community safety and emergency preparedness, officials will host a free Hurricane Preparedness Drive-Thru Distribution event for Homestead residents.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or while supplies last, at Harris Field Park. The initiative is being organized in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) and Farm Share, two organizations widely recognized for providing support and emergency assistance to communities affected by natural disasters and economic hardship.

During the event, residents will receive free Family Necessities Kits designed to help households better prepare for the 2026 hurricane season. According to organizers, the kits are expected to include important emergency supplies such as flashlights, emergency radios, ponchos, blankets, and bottled water.

The distribution will operate through a drive-thru format, allowing residents to remain safely inside their vehicles while receiving supplies in an organized and efficient manner.City officials say the event reflects the importance of proactive planning during hurricane season, especially in South Florida where tropical storms and hurricanes can develop rapidly and impact communities with little warning.

Beyond distributing supplies, the event also aims to encourage residents to review emergency plans, secure essential household items, and remain informed throughout the storm season.

The City of Homestead emphasized that the distribution is strictly limited to City of Homestead residents only. Participants must present a valid photo ID during check-in to verify eligibility. Officials also noted that mailing addresses alone do not determine qualification, meaning residents living in Unincorporated Miami-Dade County or Florida City are not eligible to participate, even if their mailing address lists “Homestead.”
