More Heat, More Savings: Take Advantage of FPL Programs

As summer temperatures rise across Florida, keeping homes cool becomes a top priority for many families. However, running air conditioning systems more often can also lead to higher energy use and increased monthly electric bills. To help customers better manage their energy costs during the hottest months of the year, Florida Power & Light (FPL) is highlighting tools, programs and rebates designed to improve efficiency and help households save.

Air conditioning can account for up to half of a home’s energy use in Florida, making it one of the biggest drivers of seasonal electricity consumption. Simple changes can make a meaningful difference. Adjusting the thermostat by a few degrees when possible, replacing air filters regularly and sealing air leaks around doors and windows can help cooling systems work more efficiently without sacrificing comfort.

FPL also offers customers access to Energy Manager, a digital tool that provides personalized insights into household energy use. By helping customers understand when, where and how they use electricity, Energy Manager can identify usage patterns and provide tailored recommendations to improve efficiency.

Knowing which appliances or habits contribute most to energy consumption allows families to make smarter decisions that can add up to savings over time.

Another opportunity for customers is FPL On Call®, a program that offers bill credits while helping reduce strain on the energy grid during periods of high demand. Customers enrolled in the program allow brief, temporary adjustments to certain appliances, such as air conditioning systems, when needed to support grid reliability.

These adjustments are limited and typically infrequent. In return, participants may receive bill credits of up to $90 per year, making it a simple way to lower costs without changing daily routines.

For homes with older air conditioning systems, especially units more than 10 years old or those requiring frequent repairs, upgrading to a high-efficiency system may also help reduce long-term energy expenses. Through FPL’s A/C Rebate program, eligible customers can receive incentives to help offset the cost of installing a qualifying energy-efficient system through an approved contractor.

Home insulation is another important factor in controlling energy use. Proper ceiling insulation helps keep cool air inside during the summer, reduces the workload on air conditioning systems and can improve year-round comfort.

In many homes, proper insulation can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 15 percent annually, and eligible customers may qualify for rebates to support these upgrades.

As Florida households face the peak summer heat, having access to the right information and savings programs can make a real difference. By taking small, intentional steps and using available FPL resources, families can stay comfortable while keeping energy use and monthly bills under control. For more information, visit FPL.com.
