FPL Offers Bill Credits and Savings Options to Eligible Seniors

Eligible customers who received EHEAP assistance within the past 24 months will receive a one-time $200 bill credit through FPL Saving Steps, along with practical energy-saving education.

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced an initiative to help eligible seniors who need assistance with their electricity expenses, providing a one-time $200 bill credit along with practical guidance designed to help them save energy.

Who can receive the $200 bill credit?
According to FPL, eligible customers who received assistance from the Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP) within the past 24 months will receive the one-time $200 bill credit through FPL Saving Steps.

EHEAP is an energy assistance program designed to help older adults who need support with their home energy expenses.

In addition to the credit, FPL Saving Steps provides education on practical measures customers can take to reduce electricity use and potentially lower future energy bills.

“We’re focused on making it easier for customers to get the help they need,” said Dawn Nichols, vice president of customer service at FPL. Nichols said the initiative is intended to provide immediate bill relief while giving customers simple ways to reduce energy use over time.

The program is part of the FPL Assistance Center, a resource that brings together bill assistance, energy-saving programs and community resources in one place.

Available options include Payment Extension, which gives eligible customers additional time to pay their bill; the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for income-qualified customers; and FPL Care To Share, which provides emergency bill-payment assistance or support for qualifying electrical repairs.

Customers may also find help through Bill Extender, which offers eligible customers an extended due date, and Budget Billing, which helps make monthly expenses more predictable by smoothing seasonal bill fluctuations.

FPL also offers tools such as Energy Manager, which provides personalized information and recommendations based on household energy use, and FPL On Call, which provides more than $90 a year in bill credits for allowing certain appliances to be briefly paused during periods of peak energy demand.

While the latest announcement focuses on seniors who have received EHEAP assistance, FPL Saving Steps is also available to a broader range of eligible households, including working families and others.

FPL encourages customers who may not qualify for government assistance to explore Saving Steps and determine whether they qualify for support.
