Broward Opens New Path to High School Graduation
Broward County Public Schools and Acceleration Academies have opened a second tuition-free public high school, offering students greater flexibility and personalized support to earn their diploma.
Students in Broward County who need an alternative to the traditional high school experience now have another option to continue their education and work toward graduation.
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and Acceleration Academies recently opened a second Broward County Acceleration Academies location in Deerfield Beach. The school is designed for students who may benefit from greater flexibility, personalized attention and an educational model tailored to their individual needs.
The academy is tuition-free and enrolls eligible students ages 14 to 20 in grades 9 through 12.
One of the program’s key differences is its hybrid learning model and year-round calendar. Students combine in-person academic coaching at the academy with an online curriculum available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Rather than managing several subjects at the same time, students focus on one class at a time, with each course designed to be completed in approximately two to four weeks. The approach can help students who have struggled with the traditional school day stay focused, build momentum and see clearer progress toward graduation.
Each student also receives a personalized learning plan designed to track academic progress and map out an individual path toward earning a Florida high school diploma.
“Our partnership with Broward County Public Schools allows us to connect with students who may need a different approach to education,” said Liset Cruz, Interim Academy Director of Broward County Acceleration Academies. Cruz said the new Deerfield Beach location will bring flexible educational support closer to more students and families throughout the county.
Kelli Campbell, CEO of Acceleration Academies and a first-generation high school and college graduate, said the program also aims to reach students who may have begun to believe graduation is no longer possible.
“We’re here to change that story,” Campbell said, emphasizing the importance of providing a supportive environment where students can overcome obstacles, rediscover their strengths and continue making progress.
The first Broward County Acceleration Academies location opened last year at 725 Progresso Drive in Fort Lauderdale.
The new Deerfield Beach academy is located inside the Hillsboro Community Center at 50 Hillsboro Technology Drive.
