The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami named a top music business school by Billboard Magazine

This is the Tenth Time the Elite Music School Has Been Included on the List that Highlights Schools With the Best Opportunities for Students Pursuing Music Industry Careers
The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami continues to set a new standard for music schools by taking a coveted spot on Billboard’s Top Music Business Schools list for the tenth year in a row. The Frost School has held a place on the prestigious list every year since the list was first published by the leading music industry magazine.
Serona Elton, Professor and Director of the Music Industry Program at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami said, “Now more than ever, it’s become increasingly challenging to navigate the music industry without a solid educational foundation, real-world experiences, and a strong network and community. That’s why aspiring professionals seek out an education at the highly regarded Frost School of Music where they can study with successful industry professionals, participate in student-run enterprises, join relevant student organizations, and earn a degree – right in the heart of Miami, one of the top music cities in the world.”
The music school’s inclusion on the list follows the recent news that Frost School students can now complete the well-established, on-campus Master’s of Arts in Music Industry in 12 months (instead of 21 months), as part of its prestigious Music Industry Program (referred to as “MIND”). Additionally, the Frost School is proud to have recently welcomed Olga Cardona as a new full-time lecturer. The Latin music industry veteran, who has more than 30 years of experience in performing rights and music publishing, rounds out the music school’s wealth of expertise across its MIND faculty members.
Dean Shelton (Shelly) G. Berg of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami said, “The future of music is the future that our student musicians and aspiring industry professionals will be able to create for themselves. As a leader, we know what sets an elite music school apart from others, and it’s why we’re proud that Billboard magazine once again recognized the Frost School of Music as home to one of the top music business programs. For us, it’s further proof of how the Frost School is setting a new standard for music schools and greatly benefiting the next generation of musicians and music industry professionals.”
During the last school year, the Frost School expanded its nearly 60-year-old music industry program by offering a new version of its undergraduate MIND program, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music Industry, which doesn’t require students to complete an audition as part of admission into the program. In doing so, the music school opened up the program to students who don’t wish to pursue a career in performance, but are passionate about music and the business side of the industry. Interest in the new program addition has been tremendous, with many interested students applying as freshman or transfer students.
Today, more than 80 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students (including those enrolled in the fully online Master’s degree) are pursuing a degree in MIND, and as such, get to study with an esteemed group of faculty members, many of which hail from music industry careers at leading companies and institutions including Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music, Warner Music Group, BMG, and The Mechanical Licensing Collective, with many still deeply involved in the field. At the Frost School, MIND students also get real-world experience working with a host of student-run enterprises, including the music label, ‘Cane Records; the song promotion effort, Cat 5 Music; and live concert producer, Frost Sounds.
The Frost School is widely known as one of the top music schools in the world. In addition to being recognized as a top music business school by Billboard, the Frost School is listed as a top music school by Downbeat Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, In Tune Magazine, Musical America Worldwide, Niche, and U.S. News and World Report, among others.
