Thousands of People Celebrate the Opening of Losner Park!

The streets of Downtown Homestead were buzzing on Saturday, November 5th as thousands of attendees flocked to the streets for the Grand Opening of Losner Park. The festivities kicked off the reopening of Losner Park that will serve as the heart of Downtown Homestead for residents and visitors alike to gather. The completion of the project signifies another piece of the puzzle in the Downtown Revitalization effort. Completed projects include the reopening of the Seminole Theatre in 2015 after nearly 40 years of closure, in 2016 the new Homestead City Hall, in 2017 the Police Headquarters, in 2019 Homestead Station, in 2021 the Cybrarium, and finally in 2022 the reopening of Losner Park.

The afternoon kicked off with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Eats and Beats food trucks, craft vendor market, live performance by Steve Augeri, and an epic fireworks finale. The anticipation began to build for the ribbon cutting as attendees flocked to the front of the park while entertained by a flash mob presented by the Seminole Theatre Players, Paramount Dance Studios, and Prodigy Dance Studios. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony took place at the entrance to Losner Park where Homestead’s Mayor & Council, numerous distinguished dignitaries, and the Losner family filled the stage for the momentous occasion. Following their remarks, the countdown began as the ribbon was cut with an explosive confetti display as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” ushered the crowd into the park.

Hundreds of children played in the all-ages playground complete with a massive “boomerang” play structure as parents looked on with joy. Near the back of the park, visitors admired the Veterans’ Memorial, whose honed black granite surface is adorned with the names of local servicemen and women. Attendees also enjoyed the unveiling of the Everglades Safari Augmented Reality Experience and were seen excitedly collecting and learning about the Everglades animals. While strolling through the park guests enjoyed the native trees and plans that make up the lush landscaping.

The evening culminated at the main stage and great lawn with a live concert by Journey’s former lead vocalist, Steve Augeri, that gathered an enthusiastic crowd that sang along to old and new hits! Just as the sun was set on an incredible evening, the Steve Augeri Band sang the Journey classic “Don’t Stop Believing,” as a dazzling pyrotechnic display erupted from the top of Homestead Station serving as the perfect backdrop to end the night.
