FPL Expands STEM Scholarships in Florida, Inviting Students to Advance Careers in Robotics and Drones
At a time when demand for skilled professionals in science and technology continues to rise, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has announced the expansion of its STEM scholarship program, reinforcing its commitment to education and workforce development across Florida.
The initiative targets high school seniors and introduces three scholarship opportunities designed to support students pursuing careers in technical fields. Two $20,000 awards are available for students who have participated in robotics programs such as FIRST, VEX, or B.E.S.T., while a third $5,000 scholarship is dedicated to students involved in the Drones in School program. Beyond financial assistance, the program aims to recognize and cultivate talent in critical thinking, innovation, and teamwork.
The expansion comes as industries across the nation increasingly rely on STEM expertise to drive growth and competitiveness. Programs like FPL’s scholarship initiative play a key role in bridging the gap between education and workforce needs, particularly in rapidly evolving sectors such as engineering, data systems, and aviation technologies.

Eligibility requirements reflect the program’s focus on both academic achievement and hands-on experience. Applicants for the robotics scholarships must have at least two years of participation in an eligible program, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, and submit a recommendation from a coach or instructor. In contrast, the drone scholarship emphasizes technical experience and removes the GPA requirement, broadening access to students with strong practical skills.
The impact of these scholarships is already evident. Previous recipients have leveraged this support to attend top-tier institutions, opening doors to opportunities that might otherwise have been out of reach.
Applications are open to students from both public and private high schools within FPL’s service area and will be accepted through April 13, 2026.
