FPL Opens New Scholarship Opportunities Supporting Careers in Energy and Technology
Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is encouraging students across the state to take advantage of a major educational opportunity that could help shape their future careers. The company recently announced the launch of 13 scholarship opportunities for students pursuing higher education, technical training, and careers connected to science, technology, engineering, and the growing energy industry.
Applications are now open and will remain available through May 25, 2026, at 3 p.m. EST, prompting educators and community leaders to urge students and families not to miss the deadline.
The scholarship program reflects FPL’s ongoing commitment to education and workforce development across Florida. This year, in addition to its traditional SECME scholarships focused on STEM students, the company introduced three new workforce development scholarships designed to meet the increasing demand for skilled tradespeople and technical professionals within Florida’s evolving energy sector.
In total, FPL will award 10 SECME Scholarships to high school seniors participating in SECME programs within FPL’s service area who plan to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Additionally, the three new Workforce Development Scholarships will be available to students enrolled full-time at accredited Florida colleges, universities, or technical schools located within FPL’s service territory.
These scholarships include opportunities connected to technical trades, undergraduate studies, and associate degree programs that help prepare students for careers powering Florida’s future economy.
“At FPL, we believe that investing in students is investing in Florida,” said Kate Cotner, Director of Community Engagement for FPL. She emphasized that the scholarships are designed to strengthen the state’s talent pipeline while helping students gain the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing energy industry.
At a time when many families continue facing rising college costs and economic uncertainty, financial assistance programs like these can make a meaningful difference for students hoping to achieve their academic and professional goals.
Education experts also note that STEM and technical careers continue to provide some of the strongest job opportunities and salary potential in Florida, particularly in fields tied to infrastructure, technology, energy, and innovation.Interested students can apply and review eligibility requirements by visiting FPL Education Programs. Scholarship winners will be announced on June 13, 2026.
FPL also stated that students and families with additional questions may contact Education@FPL.com for guidance throughout the application process.
