Little Haiti Prepares for a Major Free Back-to-School Celebration
With the new school year quickly approaching, hundreds of Miami families will have an opportunity to receive backpacks, school supplies, diapers and other essential items during the seventh annual Back 2 School community event organized by the nonprofit It’s Bigger Than Us.
The free celebration will take place Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, located at 212 NE 59th Terrace in Miami. The event is open to the public at no cost, although advance online registration is required.
The initiative is designed to help more than 500 students begin the school year with the materials they need while also easing some of the financial pressure many parents and caregivers face during back-to-school season.
Organizers plan to distribute more than 500 backpacks and school-supply kits, 500 LEGO toys, 500 electric toothbrushes, 500 packs of wipes, 500 deodorants and approximately 50,000 diapers.
Families will also have access to on-site health screenings, wellness resources, local vendor booths, raffles, giveaways and other activities throughout the afternoon. Music and entertainment will add to the celebratory atmosphere, creating a welcoming space for children and adults to enjoy together.
The event will be hosted by Jefferson Noël, a professor, global speaker, five-time author and founder of Barbershop Speaks. Noël is also known as a strong voice and advocate within Miami’s Haitian community.
The celebration is made possible through a partnership involving It’s Bigger Than Us, Florida Power & Light Company, Baby2Baby and City of Miami Commissioner Christine King, who represents District 5. Orange Barrel Media is also helping promote the event through its IKE Smart City digital kiosk network across Miami.
For It’s Bigger Than Us, the event is about more than distributing supplies. The organization’s work is rooted in the belief that community itself is essential infrastructure and that families should be able to access resources with dignity, respect and fewer barriers.
Founded in 2020, the nonprofit has served more than 62,000 students and distributed over 22,500 backpacks during seven years of community outreach.
Families are encouraged to register early, attend the celebration and share the information with others who may benefit. Supplies will be available while quantities last.
