FPL Strengthens Hialeah’s Energy Grid with Concrete Poles

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) continues to build a stronger, smarter and more stormresilient energy grid throughout Florida, including replacing wooden power poles with concrete structures today in Hialeah. This is one of the many ways FPL is improving grid resiliency during severe weather, while also enhancing service reliability in day-to-day conditions.

“This project in Hialeah is an example of what FPL is doing throughout South Florida and our entire service area, replacing wooden poles with concrete structures improves reliability for our customers, both in good weather and in bad.” Kamrel Eppinger, FPL Spokesperson

Details on the project in Hialeah:
FPL is replacing wooden poles with concrete structures on W 76th Street.
These poles support main power lines, which may serve critical infrastructure such ashospitals and 911 call centers.
This specific project on W 76th Street in Hialeah supports approximately 700 customers.
Approximately 80% of FPL’s main power lines are hardened or underground.
Converting wooden poles to concrete structures helps the electric grid further withstand hurricanes and severe weather, and also allows us to restore power faster following these storms.

FPL is continuing to enhance the electric grid with stronger infrastructure, undergrounding power lines and deploying smart grid technology. While no electric grid can be 100% stormproof, we have seen these enhancements benefit our customers during recent hurricanes and severe weather.
