Burger King Foundation Celebrates 20,000 Miami-Dade Seniors with Opportunities for Their Future

The start of senior year represents much more than going back to school. For thousands of Miami-Dade students, it also marks the beginning of important decisions about college, vocational education and the path they will pursue after graduation. This year, the Burger King Foundation is turning that milestone into a celebration connected to future opportunities.

The Foundation is surprising 20,000 Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) seniors with commemorative Burger King crowns designed to connect students directly with information about the Burger King Scholars Program.

Each crown features a QR code that allows students to learn more about the scholarship program and encourages eligible seniors to apply when applications open in October.

The initiative combines a senior-year tradition with a broader message: students can begin exploring educational opportunities and planning for life after high school well before they receive their diplomas.

As part of the celebration, students who bring their crown and a valid school ID to participating Burger King restaurants can redeem a special BOGO Double Cheeseburger offer, giving seniors another opportunity to celebrate together and share the moment on social media using #SeniorRule.

The celebration will also extend beyond the classroom. Miami Senior High School students are invited to a special after-school event on Thursday, August 27, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Burger King located at 2390 W. Flagler St. in Miami. The event will feature music, games, photo opportunities and giveaways.

Behind the crowns and celebrations, however, is a much larger educational initiative. The Burger King Scholars Program was created to honor the legacy of company co-founder James W. McLamore and help students pursue college or vocational education. Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $60 million in scholarships to over 51,000 students.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on factors including academic achievement, work experience, extracurricular involvement, financial need and community service, reflecting the program’s focus on helping the next generation reach its potential.

At a time when the cost of higher education can present a significant challenge for many families, scholarship programs like this can provide an important bridge between high school graduation and a student’s academic and professional ambitions.

For Miami-Dade’s 20,000 seniors, the crown they receive at the beginning of their final school year may initially feel like a symbol of celebration. But behind the familiar Burger King tradition is an important reminder: senior year is not simply the end of one chapter — it is the beginning of the next.
