Miami Children’s Museum Turns Back-to-School Season Into a Month of Family Fun
August 14, 2026
As Miami-Dade families settle into the routines of a new school year, the Miami Children’s Museum is offering a different way to keep children learning beyond the classroom, with an August calendar filled with free admission, theater, art, active play and hands-on experiences designed to spark creativity.
The activities begin with Free Friday – Back to School on Friday, Aug. 21. As part of the museum’s third-Friday tradition, families can enjoy free admission from 3 to 8 p.m., providing a no-cost opportunity to explore the museum’s exhibits and activities. The event is presented by Baptist Health South Florida.
The fun continues Aug. 22-23 with All The World’s A Stage! Weekend, inviting young visitors to step into the world of performing arts alongside the museum’s in-house Theater Troupe.
Throughout the weekend, children can participate in an improv workshop, costume-design activities, puppet-making and a musical song-and-dance session. Families can also catch a showing of the museum’s latest production, “Anyways, Golf!”To close out the month, Say Yes to the Mess takes over Aug. 29-30, encouraging children and their families to embrace creativity without worrying about getting a little messy.
Activities include a bubble foam party, slime-making and mural painting with frozen paint popsicles. Families are encouraged to bring a towel or change of clothes.
Visitors can also explore some of the museum’s newer exhibits.Planet Soccer, designed for children ages 2 to 12 and their caregivers, combines an immersive space-themed environment with physical activity. Children can practice soccer-related skills while engaging in movement, imagination and collaboration, supporting physical, cognitive and social-emotional development through play.
Another interactive experience is Playful Putters: The History of Miniature Golf, featuring an original nine-hole indoor miniature golf course. As families test their putting skills, they can also discover how the popular pastime has evolved throughout American history.
At a time when children are spending much of their day back in the classroom, experiences like these provide opportunities to continue learning through movement, creativity, exploration and play.
With free admission opportunities and activities for different ages, Miami Children’s Museum is showing families this August that back-to-school season doesn’t mean the fun — or the learning — has to stop when the final school bell rings.
