The Grand Opening Of The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Trail
The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Trail is now open and provides a unique outdoor adventure. Join us for the grand opening as one of the first to explore this incredible new trail.
Get ready, Homestead! The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Trail is finally here! This trail is an exciting new development that will connect Everglades and Biscayne National Parks with a 42-mile pedestrian and bicycle-friendly route that runs through Downtown Homestead. The grand opening of the trail’s first completed section will be on Saturday, March 11, 2023, with a family-friendly bike ride and ribbon-cutting event.
The event is scheduled at the east entrance of Harris Field Park, located at 1034 NE 8th Street in Homestead. So, grab your bike and helmet (mandatory) and join us for a fun six-mile ride along the new trail.
The event will start at 9:00am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Homestead City Council, followed by the Inaugural Ride. It will be a slow-paced, family-friendly six-mile route with water and rest stations. After the ride, you can connect with local bicycle enthusiasts and enjoy fresh juices and other refreshments from various vendors.
The first 100 riders to check in will receive a free commemorative water bottle, and there will also be food trucks offering breakfast treats and fresh juices for those who want a snack before or after their bike ride.
The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Trail is a project that has been in the works since the 1990s, and various elected officials and local groups have championed it throughout the years. The trail is part of Homestead’s identity as the Gateway to Everglades & Biscayne National Parks and our ongoing effort to connect residents and visitors with the natural treasures that surround us.
The City hopes the trail will provide family-friendly recreational opportunities to our residents and visitors, inspire them to connect with our neighboring National Parks, and commit to environmental stewardship through small steps at home or community-wide efforts.
The trail’s construction is funded, thanks to the State of Florida’s Sun Trails grant program. The credit also goes to the cooperation of Miami-Dade County and Bike 305. The next phase of the Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Trail will run through Downtown Homestead.
This event will continue to contribute to revitalizing our historic district and create yet another draw for visitors to our area.
We hope to see you there! Enjoy this fantastic opportunity to explore Homestead’s beautiful natural surroundings while getting some exercise and fresh air.
